Ticket Broker AllState Ticketing Purchased by Travelocity

Travelocity purchases LV ticket seller

Travelocity, an online travel arranger, on Tuesday said it acquired Allstate Ticketing, a Las Vegas show tickets and tour seller, for $25 million in cash.

Travelocity, a unit of Sabre Holdings Corp. of Southlake, Texas, also acquired the Allstate Ticketing brand and showtickets.com Web site. The deal closed Monday.

Allstate Ticketing, founded in 1973 by Robert Adams and Donald Adams, sells tickets to 60 Las Vegas shows and manages box offices for four Las Vegas casinos: the Flamingo, Harrah's, Rio and Sahara. The company operates 20 additional ticket booths, including one at McCarran International Airport.

Allstate owns exclusive rights to operate ticket booths at Hoover Dam and sells tours to the dam, the Grand Canyon and Lake Mead.

Penny Stegeman, Allstate's vice president of finance and operations, said her company last year sold about 30 percent of all show tickets sold for Las Vegas venues with 2,500 seats or fewer, about 3.7 million tickets in all.

Under the deal, Allstate Ticketing, which has headquarters at 1421 E. Sunset Road, will operate as a Travelocity subsidiary. Ross Mantione, Travelocity's vice president of partner marketing, said all 200 of Allstate Ticketing's employees will keep their jobs.

Also, he said, Stegeman, a nine-year Allstate employee, will continue directing the ticket-and-tour company's day-to-day business.

Stegeman said: "It was very important to me that all of my staff remain and be very much involved in the company's future. They've been champs as we've gone through this (deal)."

Mantione said the deal makes sense for Travelocity because the company arranges more trips to Las Vegas than anyplace else. He wouldn't say how many trips, though.

"Las Vegas is our number one market; we are very committed to the Las Vegas marketplace," Mantione said. "One rationale for the acquisition is to try to enhance the overall travel experience for our customers."

Travelocity will be able to broaden its sales by packaging trips and tours with travel, Mantione said. Also, he said, Travelocity will be able to handle Las Vegas customer service face to face, rather than remotely by telephone or electronic mail.

Stegeman said the deal weds Allstate Ticketing's on-the-ground network with Travelocity's wide Web audience. Stegeman said her company does about 80 percent of its sales directly in person.

Sabre Holdings shares fell 30 cents, or 1.29 percent, Tuesday to close at $23.
